US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the United States will continue to support the current leadership of Bolivia and will not allow an unconstitutional change of power in the country. "There should be no doubt. The United States fully supports the legitimate constitutional government of Bolivia. We will not allow criminals and drug traffickers to overthrow the democratically elected leaders of our hemisphere,” Rubio wrote in X.
Earlier, the president of Bolivia, Rodrigo Paz, announced the creation of an economic and social council to resolve public dissatisfaction during the protests. Pas also announced plans to reorganize the government.
Protests against the government have been going on in Bolivia for several weeks, during which roads are closed all over the country. The authorities blame the lack of supplies and the unrest on supporters of former President Evo Morales. On May 18, clashes and riots took place in the de facto capital of Bolivia, La Paz, which led to the arrest of about 100 people.
