The President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, announced that in order to settle the situation related to mass demonstrations in Tbilisi, it is necessary to call new parliamentary elections.
"Currently, the claims of the president and the opposition parties about the illegitimacy of the elections are in the Constitutional Court. The court and its judges have in their hands a unique opportunity to solve this deep crisis for the country in a constitutional way. "The Constitutional Court is inactive today, not examining the claims," Zurabishvili said in the briefing.
According to him, if the Constitutional Court confirms the illegitimacy of the parliamentary elections held in October, it will return the country to a peaceful course, as it will be constitutionally possible to call new elections.
