In August 2026, the average value of the food price index of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) increased by 1.9% compared to the July index and amounted to 133.3 points. That level is the highest since November 2022 and 2.5% higher than in August 2025.
According to the results of the month, the prices of all main product groups have increased to one degree or another, "Agroexport" reports. Thus, during August, the average value of the grain price index increased by 2.2%, reaching the highest level since May 2024. The vegetable oil price index rose by 0.6% in one month (the highest since June 2022), meat by 1%, dairy products by 2.3%, and sugar by 11.9%.
"The August rise in global food prices is a warning that the risk premium is returning to food markets. climate shocks, geopolitical tensions and trade logistics disruptions are leading to tightening supply expectations, demonstrating that stability, open trade and reliable resource flows are now central to the stability of global food prices," said Maximo Torero, Chief Economist at the Food and Agriculture Organization.
