Scientists have found out which women are more often suffering from chronic pain

Scientists from Aalborgi University (Denmark) have found that even short sleep disorders increase the sensitivity of the body towards pain, and this effect is more pronounced in women than in men. The results of the study were published in the Europe Journal of Pain (EJP).

"Sleep plays a much more important role in resolving pain than they used to think," said Kanyer-Staal-Petersen, co-author of the study.

59 healthy adults aged 18 to 45 took part in the experiment. During three nights, the participants woke up three times at night and asked to make small tasks. The sensitivity to their pain was assessed before and after the experience. The results showed that even the short disorders of sleep regime have increased their feelings of pain and affect general health.

According to scientists, their work was the first experimental study, which directly linked sleep disorders to sexual differences in pain. However, according to the authors, it only confirms the trend that has been observed in large-scale clinical observations.

"When we see the same picture in different studies, it increases our trust in the results. Everything shows that sleep quality is directly related to immunity, mental health and other important functions of the body, "said Petersen.

Today, the treatment of chronic pain usually includes exercises, medicines or surgery. These methods help many people, although they are not universal.

"Physical exercises reduce the intensity of pain by about 20-25%. The drug also reduces it by 25%, but many of them cause side effects. And the operation, although in some cases, can even worsen the problem, "said Petersen.
