Former President of Paraguay Santiago Peña is under house arrest, reports ABC Color. On November 7, at 11:00 AM (5:00 PM Moscow time), the former head of state will be brought in for questioning.
Previously, prosecutors decided to arrest Peña in connection with the "Ueno Bank" case, where approximately 3 million customer accounts were frozen. At the time of the arrest, the former head of state was at home. On November 6, senators confirmed Peña's impeachment. Supporters of Peña's removal accuse him of a conflict of interest due to his alleged ties with "Ueno Bank."
On November 3, Paraguay's Central Bank declared Ueno Bank bankrupt, freezing all accounts held there. The bank's customer base is estimated at about 3 million. Paraguay's population is approximately 7 million.
