Lebanon has released Gaddafi's eldest son after 10 years in prison

Hannibal Gaddafi, the son of late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, has been released from a Lebanese prison, 10 years after the disappearance of the founder of the Amal movement, Moussa Sadr.

A Lebanese-Iranian cleric who was a symbol of resistance against Israel disappeared in Libya 47 years ago. The Lebanese judiciary decided to release Gaddafi on bail, which was initially set at $11 million and later reduced to $896,000.

A source in the well-informed pan-Arab Asharq al-Awsat newspaper said that investigating judge Zaher Hamadah had ordered the travel ban lifted and Gaddafi's son would be able to leave Lebanon "immediately after paying bail".

"Asharq al-Awsat" reports that the judge's decision does not need justification, "it is final, and no one can dispute or obstruct it."
