MP Tigran Abrahamyan of the "I have honor" faction of the National Assembly writes.
"The international climate conference of the United Nations (COP29) ended in Baku, and taking into account the fact that this event was held in Azerbaijan with the agreement of the RA authorities, let's try to understand who won and suffered.
First, in the process that preceded this, Armenia had 2 main expectations: First, under the conditions of active pressure from international actors, Azerbaijan would return to a constructive course in negotiations and it would be possible to provide understanding in common approaches with minimal losses.
Secondly, both internally and externally, an expectation was formed that before, during or immediately after this international event, Azerbaijan would release at least a part of the prisoners and prisoners of war held in Baku prisons as a manifestation of goodwill.
Let's note at once that Armenia not only did not gain anything, but Azerbaijan used the international audience to further intensify the propaganda against Armenia, present new demands against Armenia and label it as an aggressor.
Moreover, during the same COP-29, Azerbaijan filed a new lawsuit against Armenia at the International Court of Justice, and the issue of prisoners remained pending.
The US President even thanked Azerbaijan for organizing COP29, and the German Foreign Minister met with representatives of the so-called Azerbaijani political society, "washing the face" of the Azerbaijani authorities.
And this is despite the fact that many European officials praising Azerbaijan generally forgot the Armenian prisoners in Baku prisons.
Let me remind you that a few days ago, we initiated an urgent discussion in the National Assembly (I was the main speaker), by which we tried to achieve the circulation of a relevant statement by the RA Parliament, calling on Baku to follow the requirements of international conventions and release Armenian prisoners, prisoners of war, as well as: to focus the attention of the international community on a number of priorities related to this issue.
However, the part of the parliament representing the government not only defeated this initiative, but also supported the Azerbaijani authorities to block the topic on other platforms.
