"Fact". Criminal prosecutions against businessmen are ongoing

"Fact" daily writes:

"The legal community is constantly talking about the abuse of detention as a preventive measure, often the cases of using detention as a punishment.

The requirement of the law is very clear: other means of disruption should prevail, and detention should be an exception, but at present, in practice, the exact opposite logic works in Armenia.

Recently, it was officially confirmed that there is a decrease in economic growth rates and tax collection indicators in Armenia.

Different hypotheses about its reasons can be considered, but many experts believe that one of the reasons is the increase in the number of criminal prosecutions and arrests against businessmen.

Both economists and lawyers raised the alarm about this in the conversation with "Fact".

Moreover, there is no shortage of such cases: for example, businessman Karen Hakobyan has been detained for more than 60 days.

Karen Hakobyan was not prosecuted for any act before, she always appeared at the request of the investigator, she did not hide, she did not obstruct, but she is detained.

Courts, despite the fact that there are clearly no grounds for extending the detention, simply avoid applying another preventive measure.

It should be noted that Karen Hakobyan is the director of the "Makur Yerkat" factory, which is a foreign investment, hundreds of people work in that company, but the mentioned is simply ignored.

We learned from Hakobyan's lawyers that on November 19, 2024, Anti-Corruption Court judge S. An appeal has already been filed against Petrosyan's decision to extend Karen Hakobyan's detention."
