As is known, local government elections will be held in all regions of Armenia on October 25, 2026. In order to participate in the proportional elections in 20 enlarged communities, parties and party alliances must submit their electoral lists for registration by 18:00 on September 20. These days, the names of political forces and candidates to be nominated in some communities are already being clarified, but for the most part there is still uncertainty, especially in terms of the participation of opposition forces.
According to the "Fact" newspaper, especially in the last month, Nikol Pashinyan has declared himself "number one" in all regional administrations and regional structures of the law enforcement system. Moreover, it is not just about ensuring an unconditional victory for the CP in the elections, but primarily for “intelligence” purposes. Our sources report that everyone has been instructed to gauge the mood, collect internal information in order to understand in advance which opposition forces will participate where, and who they will nominate as a candidate for the head of the community (number one).
The goal is to prevent the participation of strong candidates as much as possible: either through “collaboration”, as in the case of Goris, or by initiating criminal proceedings and neutralizing them through other pressures.
