The United States and Saudi Arabia have reached an agreement on Washington's support for the Kingdom's peaceful nuclear program, according to a statement issued by the US Department of Energy. According to the document, the agreement was signed on July 22 by US Energy Secretary Chris Wright and Saudi Arabia's Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud.
The statement emphasizes that the agreement has been submitted to the US Congress for review.
The document states that it is intended to operate for several decades and is intended to "open wide opportunities for American companies to participate in Saudi Arabia's nuclear energy development program." According to the US Secretary of Energy, as quoted in the statement, the agreement "meets the highest standards of nuclear security and non-proliferation".
