Concentrations of yellow African dust have reached dangerously high levels on the Greek island of Crete, staining the sky a bright yellow-orange, according to the Nea Kriti newspaper.
Earlier, the Kathimerini newspaper reported that the airport of the island's capital, Heraklion, had limited operations due to the dust storm and was unable to serve three international flights.
"Dust concentrations on the island have reached record highs, exceeding all permissible limits," the newspaper writes.
According to the publication, the concentration of dust brought by the wind from Africa reached 830 micrograms per cubic meter, which is an extremely dangerous level for health. Values below 150 micrograms are considered moderate pollution.
