The envoy of the president of Venezuela, Delsey Rodríguez, plans to participate in the high-level week of the United Nations General Assembly (GA), which begins next week, Bloomberg reports, citing sources. Rodríguez can become the first head of state to personally participate in the event in eight years.
Bloomberg reported that the visit could be an important step in the rapid settlement of relations between Caracas and the US President Donald Trump's administration. It is noted that the US Treasury Department lifted the sanctions against Rodriguez in April 2026, thus removing the obstacle to his possible trip.
Rodriguez's arrival in New York means he will be in the same city as Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, who has been held by US authorities in a New York prison since January 2026 along with his wife, Cilia Flores. There is no word yet on whether Rodriguez plans to meet with Maduro during his visit.
