Legendary Italian supercar manufacturer Lamborghini has completely abandoned its plan to produce an electric car and has decided to focus on plug-in hybrids. The reason, according to the company, is the decrease in demand for electric cars among wealthy customers.
The company presented its first all-electric concept car, the Lanzador, back in 2023, but now it is no longer planned to go into series production.
The company's CEO Stefan Winkelmann noted that the development of electric cars could become an "expensive hobby" for the brand, as the adoption of battery-powered cars among their customers is "close to zero". According to him, a plug-in hybrid will be produced instead of Lanzador, and by 2030, the entire model range of Lamborghini will consist only of such hybrids.
This decision is a serious turn in the "green" strategy of the company. Back in 2021, Lamborghini announced that it plans to switch to the production of hybrid and electric supercars, investing 1.5 billion euros for this purpose. But now the company has actually chosen the hybrid route instead of an all-electric future.
