Canada intends to transfer 10,000 Browning pistols to Ukraine

Canadian authorities are not destroying the remaining stockpile of Browning Hi-Power pistols from the Second World War, as they may be transferred to Ukraine. As the Ottawa Citizen newspaper reports, referring to its sources, Ottawa has not yet received an answer from Kiev on whether the weapon is needed by the armed forces of Ukraine.

According to the newspaper, Canadian authorities decided to destroy almost 11,000 obsolete guns in 2022, but two years later it was decided to send about 10,500 of them to Ukraine. However, according to the newspaper's sources, the deliveries have not yet started because Ottawa is still waiting for confirmation from Kiev that the World War II-era guns are needed.

Production of the Browning Hi-Power pistol began back in 1935. More than 1 million units were produced throughout. The Canadian authorities have started the process of destroying obsolete guns after 2022, when the country's Ministry of Defense started buying new model weapons. The department assured that only a few hundred specimens will not be destroyed and will be transferred to museums.
