Due to the threat to Sarkozy's life, 24-hour security was ordered

French Interior Minister Laurent Nunes has announced that the French authorities have to assign two police officers to the jailed former French President Nicolas Sarkozy to ensure his safety, as his life may be in serious danger in custody.

"It is obvious that he is a citizen like everyone else, but at the same time, there are much more serious threats in prison that former president Nicolas Sarkozy may face," the minister said in an interview with Europe 1 radio station.
Nunes stressed that he personally made the decision to send police officers to guard Sarkozy in prison, because the former president should have security at his disposal "given his special status."

Earlier, TF1, citing a law enforcement source, reported that two officers from the SDLP, a special unit responsible for protecting high-ranking French police officials, were providing Sarkozy's security in prison, which was in an adjacent cell.
