On Friday evening, a passenger train derailed in the north-west of France, as a result of which 44 people were injured. The prosecutor's office says that the main cause of the train derailment was a foreign body on the tracks, although local media speculated that there may have been sabotage. He writes about this BBCthe
"At this stage, the main hypothesis is that a piece of rail got on the tracks, which could have been the cause of the accident. The reasons for its existence are unknown and must be clarified by the investigation," Rouen prosecutor Sebastien Gallois said in a press release on Saturday.
The train derailed in Normandy.
One of the 44 injured passengers, an 18-year-old girl, was taken to the hospital by helicopter in a serious condition. His life is not in danger.
There were 186 passengers in the train.
"Suddenly the tremors started, several times, and after about three seconds they got stronger and stronger. I couldn't stay in my seat anymore. The windows were partially broken, and stones flew from the rails into the carriage. I'm in shock, I'm still shaking," one of the passengers, Louis, told ICI Normandie radio.
