The Austrian government plans to completely limit the right of family reunification of migrants in mid-2026. In an interview with Financial Times, Chancellor Christian Stocks and Foreign Minister Gerhard stones stated this.
The Austrian authorities will invest quotas for the reunification of families. "It is possible that the quota will be zero," he said to the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. According to him, Austria has to make such a ban on the large number of children who do not know the German language needed for school education.
"Our system is overloaded," he explained. The Chancellor, in his turn, stated that if Austria faces the same flux of refugees, as in 2015 or 2022, the country will fully refuse to receive migrants.
The Foreign Minister also pointed out the large number of crimes committed by migrant children in Vienna and other major cities, emphasizing the growth of crimes among the children of Syrian descent. During the last 5 years, they have violated the law 1,000 times.
The intentions of the Austrian government are complicated by the fact that the reconstruction of the family is an integral refugee right to the European Convention on Human Rights.
