Scientists have discovered a non-obvious secret to student success

Chinese researchers have found that students whose parents have shown more warmth and care have better socio-emotional skills and show a higher level of social and psychological well-being. The study was published in the psychology magazine (JP).

Social-emotional skills help people understand and regulate their own emotions, build a healthy relationship and make responsible decisions. These abilities are important not only for study, but also for future professional and personal life. They increase the resistance to stress, reduce the risk of anxiety and depression, contribute to successful teamwork and leadership development.

The study was attended by first-year students of the continental Chinese universities. The average age of the participants was 19-20 years old. As a result, the analysis included data from 362 students who have completed questionnaires twice.

The questionnaire included an assessment of the mother and father's heat (according to the Japanese scale of parental styles), psychological and social well-being, as well as the level of socio-emotional skills.

The results showed that those who reported greater warmth by their mothers were more likely to appreciate their fathers and vice versa. The higher the parental warmth, the higher the students appreciate their own well-being and socio-emotional skills. Moreover, in the statistical model, paternal warmth was especially significant for the level of social welfare of students.

According to the authors, the results show the important role of emotional assistance by parents in the development of communication skills and emotional stability in young people.
