TACC - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said US President Joe Biden's recent ceasefire initiative in the Middle East is a late but important step. He said this at a press conference after negotiations with the Sultan of Oman Haitham bin Tarek Al Said, who is on a visit to Turkey.
“We will not be able to achieve regional and global peace unless an immediate, fair and permanent ceasefire is ensured in the Gaza Strip. The initiative of American President Biden for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip is a very late but important step,” the Turkish leader noted.
Earlier, US President Joe Biden said that the United States and Israel, together with mediators represented by Egypt, Qatar and Turkey, plan to try to achieve a truce in the Gaza Strip in the coming days. Erdogan recalled that “from the very beginning of the conflict in Gaza, Türkiye has repeatedly stated that it is ready to contribute to ensuring a permanent ceasefire.” “We are ready to do this both as a mediator and as a guarantor. This position has not changed. Of course, we will without hesitation do everything possible for calm and peace in Gaza. And we hope for an early ceasefire in Gaza, like in Lebanon,” - added Erdogan
