France and other European countries will participate in negotiations on resolving the war in Ukraine, scheduled for November 10-11 in Abu Dhabi. This was announced on November 8 by France's Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot on RTL radio.
According to him, the European side will be broadly represented at the meeting, which is expected to be attended by delegations from Ukraine, the United States, and Russia. It has not yet been decided who will represent Paris.
"Europeans will be properly represented, and France will be in Abu Dhabi to participate in these discussions. For now, I cannot say exactly who will represent France, but he will definitely be there," Barrot said.
The French Foreign Minister emphasized that in recent weeks European countries have made it clear to the American mediator that any negotiations concerning Europe's future must take into account Europe's position.
"France will voice Europe's stance, since what is happening directly concerns it," the minister added.
The previous similar meeting between representatives of Russia, Ukraine, and the United States took place in mid-February in Geneva but did not achieve noticeable progress in resolving the conflict that arose after the war began in Ukraine in February 2022.
Moscow, in particular, demands the complete withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the eastern part of the Donetsk region. Kyiv rejects this demand, fearing that such a move would leave the country vulnerable to new Russian attacks.
Negotiations were suspended in February following the outbreak of war in the Middle East. The Abu Dhabi meeting is intended as an attempt to resume the diplomatic process.
