Registration of candidates for the extraordinary presidential elections has started in Iran

Those who want to participate in the elections have been given five days to apply to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and propose their candidacy. Starting June 4, the nominations of all registrants will be reviewed by the Board of Guardians within a 7-day period to determine the suitability of the presidential candidate's qualifications. The final list of approved candidates will be published on June 11. After the publication of the list, everyone will have 15 days for the pre-election campaign. The elections will take place on June 28. If none of the candidates receives the majority of the votes in the first round, then a second round is planned for July 5, in which the two candidates who received the most votes in the first round will participate. In Iran, the president is elected by direct universal suffrage for a four-year term, and the position can be serve no more than two consecutive terms.
