After the earthquake in Japan, 27 aftershocks occurred in the area within two hours, RIA Novosti found out, studying the statistics of the Japan Meteorological Agency. The highest aftershock was 6.1 magnitude, and the lowest was 2.1.
Earlier, the Japan Meteorological Agency warned of the possibility of aftershocks up to 7.0 on the seven-point scale used in Japan within a week of the Kyushu earthquake. A 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck near Kumamoto Prefecture on the southwestern island of Kyushu on Tuesday. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers. A tsunami warning has been issued for the coasts of Ariake and Yatsushiro bays.
Less than an hour later, a 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck. There were no reports of casualties or damage.
