The developing geopolitical situation in the region requires a quick solution to the Cyprus problem, according to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres. He expressed this opinion in Nicosia, during a meeting with the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides.
"If there is a moment when the solution of the Cyprus problem is important, it is now, in the period of chaos in the region," said the head of the world organization, according to the Cyprus News Agency. Otherwise, according to Guterres, "certain geopolitical shifts can suddenly put Cyprus in the center of undesirable events."
The UN Secretary General described his visit to Nicosia as a "visit of solidarity and humility" aimed at supporting the two Cypriot communities in finding a solution to the island problem. He emphasized that the settlement in Cyprus will not only benefit the island, but also contribute to easing tensions in the entire region.
