The newly elected Prime Minister of Great Britain, Andy Burnham, has announced that he does not intend to hold extraordinary parliamentary elections. Monday saw the handover of power to Burnham from outgoing Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage called for a general election after Burnham announced his intention to deliver the "biggest changes" to the country's politics and economy in 40 years.
"No, I don't think so. I don't think that is true. We live in a parliamentary democracy. There was a 2024 manifesto. I support that manifesto. I just think we should focus on making this country work.
This is the priority now. A general election will delay that important work," Burnham said in an interview with "Manchester Evening News" when asked if he intends to hold parliamentary elections.
