Guterres welcomed the opening of the Strait of Hormuz to commercial ships

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres welcomed Iran's announcement to fully open the Strait of Hormuz to all commercial ships. This was announced by the spokesman of the Secretary General, Stefan Dujarik.

"UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres welcomes Iran's announcement to fully open the Strait of Hormuz to all commercial ships. The Secretary General considers this a step in the right direction. The position of the United Nations remains clear. we demand the full restoration of international navigation rights and freedoms in the Strait of Hormuz, which must be respected by all parties," he said.

The UN Secretary General has reaffirmed his full support for diplomatic efforts to find a peaceful solution to the conflict in the Middle East. He also expressed hope that this event, along with the ceasefire, will help build trust between the parties and strengthen the Pakistan-mediated dialogue.

Earlier on April 17, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that the Strait of Hormuz is open for commercial ships after the establishment of a ceasefire in Lebanon. However, the White House announced that the US armed forces will continue the naval blockade of Iran, which was established on April 13.
