The United States is discussing the application of new sanctions against Iran's energy and banking sectors, as well as key figures of the country, ABC TV channel reports, referring to a source in the US administration.
In addition, a number of former US administration officials noted that "the options of large-scale military attacks on Iran and more targeted strikes against specific Iranian leaders or police infrastructure are likely to be on President Donald Trump's table."
Trump previously imposed a 25% tariff on all countries that make a deal with Iran. This followed a wave of protests in the Islamic Republic, which blamed the US and Israel for the unrest. The head of the White House did not rule out the use of force against Tehran.
