US Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized the importance of preparing for the elections in Venezuela during the consultations with the foreign ministers of other G7 countries. Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand announced this in a written statement.
According to him, during the consultations held on the same day, Rubio spoke about "the importance of releasing political prisoners, creating conditions for the functioning of democracy and planning elections in the future during which Venezuelans will elect a legitimate president."
According to Anand, the heads of diplomatic missions of the G7 "agreed to continue dialogue on the importance of international law and other global conflicts, including security guarantees to support Ukraine's sovereignty in the future." As Trump announced on January 4, the US administration wants elections in Venezuela to take place after the restoration of the South American country. On January 5, the American leader clarified that there will be no new elections in Venezuela within the next 30 days.
