Iranologist Vardan Voskanyan writes on his Telegram page:
"Since many people ask what is the meaning of the Turkic name Gökçä of Lake Sevan, which appeared very late, then I will say that it simply means "Blue" in translation, being made up of Turkic. gök "sky; from the word "blue" and the suffix -çä "-avun".
Turk in modern Azerbaijani. The ending -k of the word gök has completely changed to -y as a result of genitiveization, so we have adrab. Göyçä version.
Quite late, probably during the Khanate period of Yerevan or maybe a little earlier, this name also entered the official documents of that formation, and later, when Eastern Armenia passed to the Russian Empire, it was also used in the official writings and maps of the tsarist administration."
