Scientists deny myth of "unexpected" heart attack

The scientists from South Korea's Jones University have found that more than 99% of the "sudden" heart attack, stroke and heart failure can be explained by four factors, high blood pressure, excess cholesterol, excess and smoking in the blood. The results of the research were published in the scientific journal "The Journal of the American College of Cardiology" (JACC).

The scientists have analyzed more than nine million adult data from the Database of the South Korean National Health Insurance Service, as well as the results of the multinational study of US atherosclerosis (MESA). The study continued for up to 20 years. They recorded severe cardiovascular cases and followed the risky factors in patients to aggravation.

In almost every case, in more than 99%, there has been at least one of these four risky factors. Even among women under 60, which generally have the lowest risk of heart problems, more than 95% of infartments and strokes have been accompanied by any of these states.

The most frequent risk factor is high blood pressure, it preceded more than 93% of cardiovascular cases. Followed by high cholesterol, high blood sugar levels and smoking. The study also showed that the danger is growing even in case of indicators, which are usually considered non-dangerous. For example, 120/80 mm mercury pressure can also increase the risk of undesirable consequences.

"This new research can change the prevention approaches, it is important to focus on effective control of these four well-studied factors, not rare and difficult to search for the co-authors of the North-Western University Philip Grinish.
