Lithuanian President Government Gitrasan received the resignation of ministers' cabinet. This was stated by the press service of the head of state. "The President accepted the resignation of the government, instructing its members to fulfill their responsibilities before the formation of a new cabinet," the statement said.
Nausseda appointed Minister of Finance Rimandtas Shadjius to a temporary prime minister. Mindaugas Sinkejichus, incumbent President of the ruling Social Democratic Party of Lithuania, is considered to be the most likely candidate for Lithuanian.
The 19th Lithuanian government resigned on Monday, as required by law, in case of resignation of the Prime Minister. Prime Minister Gintautas Palutskas resigned on July 31 against the background of the corruption scandal.
