The import of steel in the United States has decreased again

In June, the United States returned to the import of steel imports by 10%, after double the customs duties on the import of this metal, according to the American steel institute.

On March 12, the United States began charging 25% customs duties on all aluminum deliveries imported to the country. The new customs duties do not make exceptions for individual countries, and the list of goods subject to restrictions has expanded significantly. Currently, customs duties will be defined not only on metal deliveries, but also on a wide range of components of goods, including refrigerators, stoves, phones and machines.

In early June, US President Donald Trump signed an executive decree, which increased customs duties to 50% to strengthen the US steel industry.

"In June 2025, the United States introduced a total of 2,246,000 tons of steel, including 1,643,000 tons, which is 9.6% and 7.6%, respectively, according to May 2025," the report said.
