Anahit Manasyan visited Meghri, discussing human rights issues


On May 20, the joint visit of the Human Rights Defender and the UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia continued to visit Syunik region. This is reported by the Ombudsman's Office.

Anahit Manasyan and Francois Jacob visited Meghri community. At the meeting with the head of the community Khachatur Andreasyan, the issues related to human rights in the community, as well as the socio-economic issues.

The head of the community noted that there are other issues related to drinking and irrigation water access, medical care and service.

Issues related to the rights of residents of the border settlements of the region, issues related to international actors in the field of human rights protection were discussed.

The Defender and the UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia also visited Alvank and Shvanidzor settlements. Meetings with teaching staff and students took place in the schools of settlements.

The Defender got acquainted with the building conditions of educational institutions, the educational process, working conditions. Problems with administrative managers and residents have been discussed, which require a priority to human rights, in particular, related to water availability, medical care, services, employment and other issues.

Anahit Manasyan will raise the discussed issues within its mandate, proposing solutions for them.

The Meghri also met with representatives of the Winnet Armenia Women's Resource Center and the beneficiaries.

During the meeting, the protection and promoting of women's rights and the rights of children with disabilities, their care parents, their own access to medical services were discussed.

The regional visits to get acquainted with the problems of human rights in the country are continuous in order to get acquainted with human rights issues in the country.
