British MPs demand pressure from government to release Armenian prisoners

Member of the British Parliament, President of the British Parliamentary Group, Chairman John Whitingdale, Kris Low and Lord Makins, sent a letter to the Government of the United Kingdom to support the release of Armenian prisoners in Baku. Jessica Mordena has been posted on her microblog on X.

The British parliamentarians strongly condemned the continued detention and trials of 23 Armenian prisoners kept in Baku and called on the Government of the United Kingdom, put pressure on the Azerbaijani government to help the release of Armenian prisoners. The letter particularly says:

"There is a lot of concern, including the relatives of prisoners and the news of the Diaspora in the UK, the lack of independent legal support, physical and psychological torture, as well as international organizations and media outlets.

We also call an alarm about BBC News Azerbaijani's "Voice of America", as reported by the Azerbaijani authorities, the Azerbaijani authorities on the termination of the International Committee of the Red Cross, as well as to deport the United Nations agencies.

Members of the families of prisoners inform us that they are in almost complete isolation and are rarely connected with relatives.

We are particularly concerned about the health condition of one of the prisoners, Ruben Vardanyan, which until recently he was on hunger strike.

We are asking the ministers to discuss the possibility of visiting 23 Armenian prisoners in Baku. We also ask ministers to ask Azerbaijan to return to the representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross and to visit BBC News Azerbaijani, as well as to release all Armenian prisoners as a guarantee of steady peace between the two countries.
