The behavior of the United States towards France cannot be called friendly, but Paris still considers Washington an ally. Benjamin Haddad, Minister of European Affairs of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced this to Cnews.
"The statements and behavior of US President Donald Trump are not friendly," Haddad said. He also called Trump's mockery of French President Emmanuel Macron because of his argument with his wife "extremely vulgar". According to Haddad, "they do not correspond to what you expect from the head of state." However, the minister-delegate expressed confidence that, apart from Trump's statements, France still considers the United States an ally.
He noted that since his first term, Macron had "constructive and very open" contacts with the current American leader and expressed confidence that these contacts will continue. At the same time, referring to his own experience living and working in the United States, Haddad expressed confidence that for Americans, Europe is a much lower priority than Asia, and therefore, according to him, Europeans should first rely on themselves when deciding their future and security.
