The publication reported that during the conversation, the American leader said that he had "three very good choices" about who could lead the Islamic Republic.
When the head of the White House was asked to name specific names, he refused to comment. Iranian state television previously reported that Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei had been killed in an attack on his residence, and the country had declared 40 days of mourning.
Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, announced that the leadership council will assume the duties of the Supreme Leader until a successor is chosen.
