The United States will be able to raise tariffs on Chinese imports if necessary, despite a Supreme Court ruling that tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) are too high. US Trade Representative Jamison Greer announced this on February 20.
“China is subject to tariffs under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974, and we are investigating China under Section 301.
So the president still has a lot of leverage and the ability to raise tariffs on China if necessary," he said in an interview with Fox News.
Section 301 authorizes the President of the United States to take all necessary measures to combat the policies or actions of another country that harm American commerce or violate international agreements.
