The United States has deployed more than 60 warplanes to Jordan's Muwafak Salt Air Base, The New York Times (NYT) reported, based on satellite images and flight data.
This is approximately three times the number of aircraft normally stationed there. The newspaper noted that planes can also be stored in hangars. According to the newspaper, at least 68 transport planes have landed at the base since Sunday.
Among the equipment spotted at the base are fifth-generation F-35 fighter jets, drones and helicopters. According to The New York Times, this military build-up may indicate that the United States considers the Muwafak Salt Air Base "a major planning center for possible strikes against Iran."
Earlier, Jordan's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman al-Safadi announced that his country will not become a platform for military operations against Iran.
