A common household method of water disinfection can cause serious health problems if used incorrectly. Family doctor Denis Prokofiev, speaking to "Abzatsem", warned that boiling the same water several times or using a kettle with a thick layer of lime increases the risks for kidneys and metabolism.
The expert explained that boiling does kill germs and bacteria, but repeated cycles increase the concentration of salts and heavy metals in the water. Furthermore, chlorinated tap water can produce potentially dangerous carcinogenic compounds when heated.
"Drinking water from kettles that have been boiled twice or have a lot of lime deposits has a negative effect on the kidneys, which can lead to kidney damage. There is an additional risk due to possible metabolic disorders," emphasized Prokofiev.
The doctor also noted that boiling deprives water of oxygen and beneficial microelements, making it "dead" in terms of biological value. Keeping such water in a teapot for a long time creates a favorable environment for the reproduction of bacteria.
