The volumes of Russian gas imported by European countries increased by 7.8 percent in January-November 2025, due to supplies made through the "Turkish Stream" pipeline. As TASS reports, referring to the data of the European Network of Gas Transport System Operators (ENTSOG), 16.3 billion cubic meters of gas were delivered to EU countries in this direction.
In October, the annual record of deliveries was recorded, and in November, the indicator decreased by 3 percent in monthly dynamics, but increased by 10 percent in annual terms.
The southern branch of "Turkish Stream" remains the only pipeline route for Russia's gas supply to Europe, because after the damage of a part of "Northern Stream" and the cessation of transit through Ukraine, other routes do not operate. A number of countries actually depend on these supplies, including Turkey, Hungary, Serbia and Slovakia.
The increase in Russian gas imports comes as the EU officially adopted an accelerated strategy to reduce dependence on Russian energy sources. With the updated plan, the EU aims to achieve zero dependence on Russian gas by January 1, 2027. As an alternative, the President of Finland noted that Kazakhstan can become a key energy partner for Europe in the coming years.
