Kazakhstan will soon sign agreements on the construction of the second nuclear power plant (NPP) and will decide on the construction sites of the second and third stations, the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Olyzas Bectenov said at the expanded government session.
"In the near future, we will sign the necessary agreements on the construction of the first nuclear power plant in the Almaty region," Kazinoform reports.
On October 6, 2024, a republican referendum on the construction of the country's first nuclear power plant took place in Kazakhstan. According to the Central Electoral Commission of the Republic, 71.12% of voters supported the project.
In June 2022, the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan stated that the nuclear power plant is scheduled to build up to 2035 with a budget of $ 11.2 billion. The short list of Candidates for construction includes Russian Rosatom State Corporation, South Korean KHNP, Chinese CNNC and French EDF.
