On December 5, RA Defense Minister Suren Papikyan met US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.
An official welcoming ceremony was held in the Pentagon, the national anthems of the Republic of Armenia and the United States were played.
Suren Papikyan presented details on the ongoing reforms in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia and noted the primary directions of cooperation, which are aimed both at the transformation of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia and at increasing the level of interoperability with the US Armed Forces.
Lloyd Austin noted that the visit of the head of the Defense Department of Armenia is historic. During the meeting, issues related to Armenia-US cooperation in the field of defense were discussed.
Lloyd Austin noted that the US supports the independence, sovereignty and well-being of the Republic of Armenia, stressing that the cooperation between the two countries continues to expand.
Secretary Austin expressed the willingness of the US to continue supporting the reforms of the RA Armed Forces.
