On November 25, 2022, I submitted my resignation from my assumed political position and returned to the legal profession. At that time, there was a criminal proceeding against Robert Kocharyan, presided over by Judge Danibekyan, and I did not assume the status of a defense attorney.
This was announced by lawyer Aram Vardevanyan at the reopened court session in the anti-corruption criminal court against the second president of the Republic of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan, recognized as unconstitutional.
"When you mentioned that in the whole proceedings it appears that I was a defender all the time, that is not the case, my status has ceased since July 2021. Let me say more, the Court of Cassation did not send me a copy of the decision, based on the fact that I did not have the status of a defender.
I appeared at the court session appointed by the court in October, because I received a corresponding court summons. At that session, when President Kocharian raised the question about his status, the court did not use the accused wording when addressing Robert Kocharian.
Considering that the accused can only have a defense attorney, we faced this problem as well. Based on that, I cannot express a position that I am the defense attorney of Robert Kocharyan in this proceeding," he said.
