The European Commission gave a “positive assessment” of the allocation of the second tranche of macro-financial assistance to Kyiv in the amount of €4.1 billion from the European Fund to Support Ukraine. The decision must now be approved by the EU Council, the press service of the European Commission reported.
“The European Commission has determined that Ukraine has satisfactorily fulfilled all nine points of reform commitments required for this payment,” the EC said, noting that it will be transferred to Ukraine “subject to approval by the EU Council.” The European Commission clarified that the criteria by which the “reforms carried out by Kiev” were assessed related to “the fight against corruption, business conditions, labor market rules, energy market standards and environmental protection.”
The European Commission noted that after the transfer of this tranche through the Ukraine Support Fund, Kyiv will receive a total of €16.1 billion.
The approval of the second tranche of aid for Kyiv was simultaneously announced on her page on the social network by the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, without saying that a decision of the EU Council was still needed to allocate the money.
The European Support Fund for Ukraine is a €50 billion program approved at the end of 2023 for the period from 2024 to 2027. The EU raised funds for these payments through a loan for a period until 2048.
