The Washington administration is expecting a statement from Iran in which it takes responsibility for obstructing shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
"We want them to publicly announce that they will stop targeting ships and admit directly or at least indirectly that they made a mistake. We are working on it now," the American official told a group of journalists during a briefing. "We expect the Iranians to announce that all waterways in the strait will be open and that there will be no tolls," the US official added, according to Axios.
According to CBS, during the above-mentioned briefing, the American officials also stated that the Iranian side asked them to continue the negotiations. According to US officials, Iranian representatives allegedly told them that Iranian "hardliners" had previously attacked ships in the Strait of Hormuz in order to "disrupt negotiations".
According to the US officials, the representatives of Iran expressed the following position. "We made a mistake. Let's keep talking."
