The first round of the upcoming French presidential elections may be scheduled for April 18, 2027, and the second for May 2, according to Ouest France newspaper. According to the newspaper, the relevant dates will be proposed during the July 1 meeting of the Council of Ministers chaired by President Emmanuel Macron.
"Consultations have taken place between the Ministry of Internal Affairs and various political parties, and the final decision must be made by the President of the Republic and it must be signed by the government," the newspaper writes. It is noted that an alternative schedule was also discussed, according to which the elections can be held on April 11 and 25. According to the constitution, the election of the next head of state can take place only on the 35th to the 20th day before the end of the current president's term of office.
This means that the first round will take place from April 9 to 24, 2027, as Macron's second term ends on May 14.
