The Hyundai company presented the new generation of the Elantra sedan, which will be sold in the domestic market of South Korea under the name Avante. The car has received a completely redesigned design, made in the new Art of Steel corporate style, which is characterized by sharp body lines and expressive geometric shapes, Autocar wrote.
The new Elantra has become slightly larger than its predecessor. The wheelbase has increased by 30 millimeters, due to which the sedan is slightly larger than its competitor Skoda Octavia. The car was also widened by 30 millimeters, special attention was paid to increasing the interior space.
The interior is designed with an emphasis on comfort. The front panel and door cards seem to "envelop" the driver and passenger, and adjustable LED lighting allows you to change the atmosphere of the cabin.
As with the recently introduced Ioniq 3 hatchback, the digital instrument panel is positioned at the top of the front fascia so that the driver can read information without taking their eyes off the road.
The central place is occupied by the 12.9- or 14.6-inch multimedia screen. It runs on the new Pleos operating system, which allows navigation and music applications to be installed directly into the car's multimedia system without the need for smartphone screen mirroring. A separate block of physical climate-control buttons and regulators has been preserved under the screen.
In the South Korean market, the model will be offered with two powertrains: a 2.0-liter gasoline four-cylinder engine that has 147 horsepower, and a 1.6-liter hybrid system that develops 155 horsepower.
The hybrid version has a new intelligent regenerative braking system that analyzes the road ahead and automatically adjusts the intensity of recuperation, helping to charge the battery more efficiently.
Another feature is Stay Mode, which allows you to use the power of the traction battery during parking to power the climate control and multimedia system, similar to electric cars.
Sales of the new Elantra in South Korea will begin in the coming weeks. Hyundai has not yet confirmed whether the model will appear in the European and UK markets. The previous generation was not officially sold there, although it was undergoing testing. According to Autocar, the company still does not exclude the possibility of bringing the new model to the European market.
The issue of the release of the Elantra N sports version and its possible appearance in Europe also remains open.
