On Wednesday, May 20, the United States will conduct a test launch of a nuclear-capable Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), according to a statement from Vandenberg Air Force Base (California).
The launch of the unarmed ICBM is scheduled from 00:01 to 06:01 local time (10:01 to 16:01 Moscow time) from the northern part of the base. The statement emphasizes that the test was planned several years ago and is not a response to current world events.
According to the US Air Force Global Strike Command, the purpose of the test launch program is to confirm the effectiveness, readiness and accuracy of the missile system.
