The bureaucratic preparations for the start of direct trade between Turkey and Armenia within the framework of the process of normalization of relations, which will continue from 2022, have been completed, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey announced yesterday. Accordingly, goods departing from Turkey via third countries to Armenia or arriving via the same route can now be marked "Armenia/Turkey" as the final destination or country of origin.
To remind: Yesterday, during the campaign in Shengavit district of Yerevan, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan whispered in Nikol Pashinyan's ear to say "Welcome". "The Turks are opening today, let's prepare a welcoming text." And yesterday, the RA Foreign Ministry distributed the text of the greeting, noting that this decision is another result of the process of normalization of relations between Armenia and Turkey. And what will that decision do to Armenia?
Previously, Armenia was not included in the list of countries exporting or importing goods to Turkey, so the goods were re-exported to Armenia, but now that situation is changing, and according to our interlocutor, the import of goods from Turkey to Armenia will be slightly cheaper, importers will benefit. Instead, the local producer will suffer. But the current authorities present this minor circumstance as an unprecedented achievement.
