In Italy, four people have been quarantined due to measures to prevent the spread of the hantavirus outbreak on board the MV Hondius. This was announced by the Italian Ministry of Health, which published a circular with recommendations and assessments of the situation.
As reported, none of the four have yet tested positive for hantavirus. They were all on the KLM flight from Johannesburg to Amsterdam. An infected passenger was removed from that flight, who later died. The Dutch authorities have verified the list of passengers. four of them arrived in Italy. Two of them are Italian sailors who have completed their voyages in South Africa and returned home. According to Il Fatto Quotidiano newspaper, one of those in quarantine is a South African tourist.
According to the Ministry of Health document received by TASS, the risk of hantavirus spreading among the population is very low. Those in contact with potential carriers of the virus are advised to observe a 45-day quarantine and undergo constant health monitoring.
