Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa has removed his brothers from top government posts to counter accusations of nepotism and to distance his governing style from the Assad family model.
His brother, Maher, lost his influential position in the presidential administration and was replaced by another official. His brother, Hazem, also left his leadership position in the economic sector. The third brother's business activities were suspended even earlier due to accusations of using the family name for personal gain.
